Dr. Laurie S. Howarth graduated from Iowa State University, College of Veterinary medicine in 1976. She is the founder and owner of Medomak Veterinary Services. She moved to Maine and started the practice after working for 12 years at other veterinary hospitals. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine with a special interest in dentistry and surgery. Her son Wyatt is graduating from dental college at Boston University and will be moving to San Francisco for a prosthodontics residency. Her husband Bill is the boat captain for Camp Kieve. Laurie and Bill share their home with a wild Whippet named Zuni, a rescue Italian Greyhound named Birdie, and three bird dogs named Blizzard, Jeb, and Gale.
Dr. Heidi Sproul joined our veterinary staff in 2013 returning to her childhood home. Dr. Sproul graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. After completing an internship in Springfield, Virginia she moved to the Chicago area where she has worked in emergency and critical care for the past 14 years. Dr. Sproul is board certified by The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. She shares her life with her partner Dr. Dmitriy Kopytnik, their daughter Veronika, and their yellow Lab Emmit. Heidi and Dmitriy moved to Maine to provide Veronika with a rural upbringing. Veronika has already discovered horses and a love for apple picking at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
Amy Witte joined the staff in 2002 as a receptionist. She graduated from the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1987 with a degree in Computer Graphics. She moved from Ohio to New Harbor with her children Niki and Andrew. Her fuzzy children include Trucker (a Golden Retriever), Tang (an orange tabby cat), Neddi (black & white feline) and one chinchilla. Amy loves chocolate, snow, and paddling a kayak.
Erin Bailey joined the staff in 2002 as a veterinary assistant. She graduated from Unity College with a B.S. in Environmental Science and a major in wildlife. Erin lives on Westport Island with her two Labradors, Moose and Casco. She also shares her house with a big cat named Juju Pupu and an adopted turtle named Turts. Erin enjoys bowling and is on a team named "It Is What It Is". She also enjoys camping, playing games, crafting, and going to the movies.
Erin Novak joined the staff in 2002 as an assistant. She lives in Waldoboro with her husband Rob, two sons Kaleb and Robert, and daughter Olivia. She also has two dogs Odis ( an American Bulldog) and Georgia(a Pitbull)and two cats Miss Kitty, and Penny. She likes animals, movies, and spending time with her children.
Leah Plummer joined our staff in 2005. She grew up in South Bristol and currently lives in Boothbay with her family. She spends most of her time with her 2 children, Chase and Sophia. She works part time as a Veterinary Assistant. Leah has always had a love for animals and they have always been a part of her life. Currently she has a beagle mix named Rocky, four cats, a rabbit, lizard, and a cockatiel to keep her busy. Her interests include photography, drawing, hiking, and dog behavior. She hopes to further her knowledge of these interests for the future.
Nikki Coccoluto, C.V.T. joined the staff in March of 2007 as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She has worked in veterinary hospitals in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Massachusetts. She loves all animals, big and small. She enjoys trail riding with her horses all year round. She shares her household with many dogs, cats, ferrets, ducks, chickens, and horses among other things. She has competed with her dogs in agility, obedience, and herding, and has a special interest in animal behavior. She currently teaches obedience classes here at the veterinary clinic.
Katie Grant joined the staff at MVS in Spring 2005 as a part time assistant and is now our office manager. She lives in Waldoboro with her husband Pete, two dogs named Shilo and Bonnie, and three cats Oliver, Charlie, and Grady. She has two grown children, Ryan and Sarah and a grandson, Owen and granddaughter, Ava. When not at work she enjoys spending time with her family, crafting, bowling, following college hockey, camping and traveling every chance she gets.
